Well, I think we can put our blogging attempt in the “fail” category so far...sorry, friends. I will ashamedly admit in the midst of everything else being done right now this has slipped through our fingers. We wish to do better, though, so hang in there with us and extend some grace our way! And there’s some exciting things on the way for City Life in cyberspace as well as in person. But I can’t tell you anymore right now...
Given that there are a few questions that have not been answered yet, I thought we’d just turn this into another “getting to know you” post and address some of the questions you have asked. And, thank you for playing along and asking!
“Uh...What type of music do y'all listen to and do you listen to the same music?” To answer the second part of the question first, yes, we do pretty much listen to the same music. But I would say that I (Kacee) listen to more music and have a few tastes that go beyond Chris’s palette. Let’s just use an analogy here: Chris is to movies as Kacee is to music. So when Liz asked the movie question it was rather appropriate the music question followed. (And if I was going to give my two cents about the movies I would have added the Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia movies.) I just love music in general, so I can only give you a sampling of the multitudes I have in my possession. The short answer is almost all music. Except country. No offense to any country fans- we just can’t do it. Israel and the New Breed and Hillsong are our main influences for worship music. Other artists I dig include Brooke Fraser, Coldplay, John Legend, Alicia Keys, One Republic, Sarah McLachlan, Dave Matthews, Seal, U2, Sting, Lenny Kravitz, the Beatles, anything Jazz, anything Classical, etc....It kind of depends on the day and the mood, ya know? Kind of like a soundtrack to life- yeah, I’m one of those people. Anyway, you get the picture. And I should add that Chris and I shared an intense love for Boyz II Men growing up. We even saw them in concert when we were in the sixth grade with MC Hammer (yes, that was a big year). They kind of lost their luster as did many of the great artists in that day like Mariah Carey. But I still rock her Christmas CD like it’s hot off the press every.single.year.
“What's the farthest place y'all have traveled together as a couple and/or family?” Ann, that’s a great question with a really boring answer! Just a few weeks after we got married, we landed ourselves in full time ministry and have been full steam ahead ever since. That combined with the fact that we started having our kids just a couple of years later means we haven’t gone anywhere all that interesting. Florida is about as far as we’ve gotten!! We also have four families between us, so most of our free time and “vacation” is spent seeing family in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. That being said, we would LOVE to travel. And we do have our ten year anniversary coming up in December, so maybe we can do something fun then. Perhaps this should turn into a shameless plug for the “Send the Pates Somewhere Cool” fund. Just kidding.
“Im a trouble maker so I have to ask this (and it's Kacee's fault anyways cuz she started it lol). What is the most embarrassing thing you have seen Chris do? Same question for Kacee lol” So, anonymous trouble maker...hard one. I would have to say for Chris it involves him talking once during church gathering everyone back in to worship and inserting a word that he did not mean to say in place of what he meant to say, and it was not good. That whole thinking-of-two-different-words-and-coming-out-as-a-combination-of-the-two. Except the combination of the two was a real word. And not one you wanted to say in church. That’s all I’m going to say about that.
And for myself, well...could be the time I busted hard in the middle of the street walking to class. Like busted knees hard. Or one of the first times we were leading praise and worship at the first church we were at. This sweet (kind of) little lady was talking to Chris afterwards and (referring to me) she says, “Well, I didn’t know if that was a little girl or a midget or what!” Yep. Granted, I was all of twenty-one, but come on.
So, there you go. And if anybody else wants to join in on the fun, feel free to leave a question in the comments section. Even if we’ve moved on, we’ll answer it for ya. Maybe that didn’t change your life, but maybe you got a laugh or two. Or just a shaking of your head in disbelief- I don’t know.
